Market Livestock Clinic

Open to Youth and adults working with large animal projects.
Participants do not need to be enrolled in 4-H, but must have completed the 3rd grade.

For those who attended last year, come again!

4-H members may bring their project animals.*

Please RSVP by June 25th.
You MUST RSVP if you plan to bring an animal.

Swine with Ian Wagner

Learn Market hog evaluation and basic showmanship.  Participants may bring their own  hog & practice showmanship at their own risk.  ** See Health Risk statement below.

BioSecurity with Sarah M. Smith

Learn the basic BioSecurity practices to help protect your animals at the fair and at home on the farm.

Beef with Dawn Nelson

Learn clipping, fitting and showing. Learn to identify conformational strengths and weaknesses of a market steer. Participants may bring their own steer if it is broke to lead and receive help after 2:00 pm. Must bring your own clipping chute and equipment.  ** See Health Risk statement below.

Sheep/Goats with Jill Swannack

Learn how to train your lamb or goat and techniques for showmanship. 13 semi-trained lambs will be available to practice with or the participant may bring their own lamb or goat to receive individual instruction.  ** See Health Risk statement below.


*Health Risk: The commingling of animals of different species, breeds, and ages, from multiple premises and herd management backgrounds creates an environment for potential exposure and spread of animal diseases. Responsible animal owners need to implement practices before, during, and after this event to protect their animals. Please review the WSDA- BioSecurity Checklist for Livestoc Exhibitors. Bringing your project animal is suggested but NOT required for hands-on practice. Check with your leader or veterinarian for advice on bringing YOUR specific animal(s) to the clinic.
Participant Attire:  Participants must be wearing suitable attire, which includes: boots, long pants, and t-shirt. This clinic will be held both inside barns and outside in arena or wash rack areas. It could be very hot! Participants are encouraged to wear a hat, and don’t forget your sunscreen!!
There will be absolutely no smoking or drinking permitted on the fairgrounds.
Adult supervision required: It is strongly recommended that parents attend this learning event with their child. Youth under 8th grade must be accompanied by an adult.
11:30 - 12:00 Lunch - Everyone needs to bring a sack lunch - snacks, water and juice will be provided for participants to access during the day.
