Looking for a Horse

2/13/08 - forwarded from State 4-H Office
Hi there,
I am looking for a horse that we bred and sold to Margit & Warren Bently who in turn sold it without papers to a 4-H member in Washington. She does not have the information on who purchased the horse.

I am sure it is like looking for a needle in a Hay Stack as they say, but I thought I would ask you if you can help in any way. He is a pure bred grey Arabian gelding who's registered name was Pension's Plan.
The agent on the transaction was Mike Whelihan.

If you can help me with any ideas at all please let me know.
Regards,
Rick Maitland maitland @ telusplanet.net (remove spaces)

PNW574 File Correction

Nancy Mordhorst
It has been discovered that the file for PNW574, "4-H Horse Contest Guide," included on the recently released 2007-2008 4-H Publications & Projects CD, is not the most recent version of this publication.

The most recent version of PNW574 is available on the publication website and has been correctly linked on our 4-H website at: http://4h.wsu.edu/EM2778CD/pdf/PNW0574.pdf.  The revision includes a brief paragraph and chart on pg. 33, titled 'Run-out Line" and applies to Washington only. An addendum is being included with hard copies of this publication distributed from WSU Extension Publishing and Printing (formerly Bulletins).

New 4-H Projects & Publications CD's, with the correct Horse Contest Guide file, will be available soon for enrolled 4-H Horse Leaders.

Leg Wrap Information

Forwarded by Dusti Campbell
Check out this website about wrapping horse legs. This lady donated some videos to IEBRA and I think her website is pretty informative. I am sure alot of you guys already know all this stuff but maybe we could forward it to the folks who need help with droopy bandages or some tips on tried and true 'racetrack' medicine. She also offered to do a free clinic in the spring and I for one would be interested in hearing stuff on leg care after you run and for minor injuries.
The website address is www.theperfectwrapvideo.com

What is Hippology?

Hippo = "horse" and ology = "the study of"

Hippology is the complete study of the horse and covers everything from equine nutrition, parasites, diseases,
genetics, anatomy and physiology, conformation, etc. A hippology contest is comprised of four phases.

1. Examination - contestants are required to complete a written test which can cover
   anything related to the horse.

2. Stations - several stations are set up that require the contestant to identify
various equipment, forages, parasites, weeds, tack, etc. that are related to
    the equine.

3. Judging - contestants may judge a halter class, performance
class(s) and possibly a hay or equipment choice class. Contestants only have to
place the class, oral reasons are not required.

4. Team problem - the team is presented a problem and is then given 10-20
minutes to prepare a solution that is orally presented to a judge.

Our "Horse Lovers' Overnight" is sort-of a NON-COMPETITIVE "Hippology Event."
