Reminder: Are you officially enrolled?
Lincoln-Adams 4-H members should check with your leaders and or Karen at the Extension Office (659-3209 or e-mail) to be sure you are officially enrolled for 4-H project exhibits you plan to enter in Fairs. 4-H Group (head) leaders should review the last print out from the Extension Office to make sure member information is correct.

Volunteers can check HERE and/or contact Karen to be sure you are officially enrolled. Fairs MAY determine entry or 4-H fair pass eligibility based on enrollment lists requested from Extension Office.

August 1st - deadline to notify superintendent of 4-H Garden Site entries.

Note: No Cat Department this year due to lack of superintendent.

Lincoln County Fair
Rate of Gain & Steer of Merit Contests

4-H Leaders and Ag Instructors should contact the Davenport Extension Office as soon as possible to request ear tags needed for your members who plan to enter the Rate of Gain or Steer of Merit Contests. Call 509-725-4171 or email Cindy

Steers exhibited at the 2009 Lincoln County Fair must be officially weighed and ear tagged between April 11 and April 26, 2009 if they are to be entered in the Rate of Gain or Steer of Merit Contests. 

Weighing should be done by the 4-H leader or Vo-Ag instructor at any certified scale.  A maximum of two ear tags are allowed per exhibitor.  4-H Leaders and Ag Instructors must complete and return a "Steer Weigh-In Registration Form" for each steer by May 15, 2009.

Talent Wanted - The fair is having a variety/talent show this year for some of the local talent.  We are looking for anyone with any talent, singing, dancing, playing an instrument, poem reading, skits, anything anyone wants to do. Contact Janet Jenkins to schedule what you want to do.

With this concept the sky is the limit as to what can be done…Those of you who have been around a while might remember the old Jackie Gleason Show Or Carol Burnett Show… just something fun and entertaining…

Exhibitor's Guides on-line only…the books will no longer be printed.  Many of the 80+ page books were picked up at the libraries by exhibitors desiring to enter only one department and then tossed in the garbage so the decision was made to cease the book's printing…thus helping to "reduce".

Reminder:
The “Grade” for this year’s 4-H Fair Entries is the grade the 4-H member was in on January 1, 2008.

Primary  K - 2nd
Junior 3rd - 5th
Intermediate 6th - 8th
Senior 9th - 12th.

Remember:
4-H Members must be in the 3rd grade or higher (Oct. `07 – June `08 for this year) AND have reached their 8th birthday by January 1 (2008) to be eligible for:

What this means:
Primary youth may enter 4-H class/division exhibits for their enrolled 4-H projects.

Primary 4-H exhibits can NOT receive Danish System Awards (Blue, Red, White) or
Best of Show Awards.

Primary 4-H youth may receive participation recognition.

Fair season...While visiting the petting barn can be a great experience, it is important that parents take steps to protect their family. Along with other farm animals, chicks and ducklings can spread Salmonella bacteria and cause serious illness, especially in young children.

Help educate parents and poultry owners about the risk of salmonella from handling poultry. Now available in Spanish are free educational materials, After you touch a duck or chick, Wash Your Hands, so you don’t get sick that highlight preventive actions that can stop the spread of salmonella.

To order your supply, fill out the publication request form, available from http://www.doh.wa.gov/ehp/ts/zoo/salmonellachick.html and fax it to the Washington State Department of Health-Publications Warehouse at (360) 664-2929. Phone orders will not be accepted. The order does not involve a payment.
